Japan to hold its first Central Asia summit this week

(MENAFN) Japan will host its inaugural summit with leaders from five Central Asian countries on Friday, according to the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo. The two-day meeting, organized by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, is set to focus on expanding trade and investment while promoting autonomous and sustainable development in the region, as stated by reports.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan are expected to participate, discussing international affairs and ways to strengthen bilateral ties. Key topics include artificial intelligence applications and cooperation on supply chains. Takaichi will also conduct separate bilateral talks with the attending leaders.

In conjunction with the summit, Japan’s Economy Ministry will host a “Central Asia plus Japan” business forum. The summit, initially planned for Kazakhstan in August 2024, was postponed following a major earthquake advisory in Japan.
